According to the Blue Book of Gun Values 1500 were roll engraved with "45 Cal Model of 1988". Here's a picture of mine.

I have one too- yours is prettier. Someone thinned and polished the trigger before I got it- still a great gun.

I understand the 625-2 had the floating hand. If yours does, can you detect any difference from a normal hand setup?

I also have a model of 1988 and love it. It shoots great with both acp and auto rim cartridges.

I did not get the box or paperwork with mine as it was used and boxes and papers are sometimes a crapshoot with used guns around here.

Can any of you guys, with this gun tell me what the correct box looks like or maybe post a picture? TIA .

The correct box is the blue, one piece cardboard box. Style was used until S&W began shipping in the plastic cases.

I've heard that some 1988s have the floating hand, but mine doesn't. It's about my most accurate revolver.

Can someone explain how a floating hand differs from a non floating hand?

There are threads on the subject. The floating hand has a bushing on the shaft that passes through the trigger. Supposedly contributes to slop, sometimes.

2nd ed of SCSW listed "1500 Marked 1988"
Supica and Nahas deleted numbers in the 3rd ed of SCSW due to conflicting information they ran into. I have a note from a source (I can't remember where from) that says 5705 were made in 88 for sale beginning in 89.

Mine likes 230g FMJ.

According to The Letter I got from Mr. Jinks, there were 5,708 made in the "Model of 1988" version.

Here's mine, that was shipped Sept. 15th, 1989, to Parker Hale Co., Birmingham, England.

I've read about the floating hand (Search is your friend), but have not taken mine apart to see what it has. I understand it's easy to change to the regular hand, if it causes problems.

This one works great for me, and started me on a 625 <STRIKE>obsession</STRIKE> interest.

Hi Curtis,

Not British, but Belgian. I haven't been able to get any solid info about why. I'm guessing that Parker Hale was just a clearing house, but I just don't know. The only overseas info I could find was generic, and that was about a major Arms Convention in Germany, where the 625-2 was announced. Gotta love a mystery!

Pretty cool anyway Hoot. Those are definitely Belgian marks...a Nitro proof and a Liege marking.

In the Reno area 625-2 et seq are going for $800-$1000 - with box and goodies, add $50-$100.
