625-2 Model of 1988

Hello all,
Picked up this 625-2 off a Gun Broker buy it now for 825.00 last week, Nice clean piece, nothing included, just gun.

Nice acquisition from GB. I found a 1988 model about 6 months ago that came with great looking Combats but they were way too big for my hands so I sold them to one of our highly respected forum members. They are great shooting guns & so accurate. That's a beautiful 3" you have there also. 4" next for you?

This is my 4" 625-3 Model 1989, with an unbelievable action job, outstanding accurate shooter.

I think you made a double score. 1) a 625-2 Model of 1988, and 2) a nice pair of wood combats! The original gun almost certainly had Pachmayrs!

Is there a difference between the models of 1988 and 1989?

My only .45acp revolvers are a 1917 and a JM, but I do like the looks of that 3" model of 1989.

Yes there are differences. The Models of 1988 have stamped markings on the barrel vs. 1989s which are laser-marked. The 5" barrel 1988 has a ramp front sight; 1989 5" has Patridge. The 1988s were built with a 'floating hand' which some people had problems with. Finally, some(too many)of the 1988s had cylinders that needed to be finish-reamed to cure poor extraction. Most of the problems have been fixed over the last 25 yrs.

I have a pair of 625's. One is a Model 625-6 Model of 1989 with a 5" barrel. After purchasing my first one, a Model 625-8 JM Special with 4" barrel, I liked it so well that I went to the OGCA Show hoping to find one. I found a nearly new one from an estate sale. We reached an agreeable price and was the only one I saw there. Talk about timing...

My favorite all time revolver is the JM Special:

This is why I REALLY like these revolvers - 25 yards standing with the JM Special:


I tuned the actions myself with a JM Spring Kit for each and set them with 9.0 lbs. double action and 3.0 lbs. single action. They will handle all of the major primers without issue.

The O.P. will no doubt thoroughly enjoy his fine revolver.
