"Reasonable" and S&W prelock revos are rarely intertwined. That being said as a buyer I would expect to pay $900-$1000 for what you describe. As a seller and at the right place right time it could fetch $1200 or more. For a 625 3" NIB, it is a sellers market and should carry a premium. As a buyer don’t expect to get a great deal.

I have watched three of these guns sell on gunbroker in the last year. Each within $25 either side of $1500. Not that I would pay that much, but those were real world guns sold to real world people.

So I got two for the price of that nib one. Also, do you really want to be the guy to drive it off the lot and fire an unfired gun? Your premium is because it is a 3 inch 625 and that it is new in box. You can get a good shooter for alot less just keep looking.

I like a pre-lock, 3" N frame as much as the next guy, but seriously, $1699 in THIS economy? May the seller choke on it. IMHO, that is double it's realistic value.
It is just a semi-limited production revolver, for crying out loud. Seems like I saw a 3" 625 sell on this forum's classified last week for..., was it $750?

3" pre-lock K's, L's, & N's have been trendy for a while now, but trends come & go. Over valued firearms (like over valued real estate markets), can leave you under water - if the market experiences realistic correction.
I can't help but think of the guys that shelled out rediculous amounts, for "pre-ban" featured AR15's during the ban. I saw them priced as high as $6500 - & kept walking. A couple years later, you could buy 6 new guns w/ identicle features, for the same money.
To each his own, I suppose...

Those 625-3s are collectible because they made less than 3,000 each of the 3" and 4" models. Actually, less 4" models were made. In the frenzy a year or so ago, I sold a 3" on GB for $1450, no box and 96% condition.

I guess they have come a long way in a short time. I have gotten 4 of these in the last couple of years, not any over $500. Have since traded 2 of them for guns of more value and have 3, 4 and 5 inch models. Go figure.

I just last recently picked up a used 625 Mountain Gun (4" tapered barrel) in 45 Colt for $500. It has some holster wear but otherwise is in very good condition. The new stainless Mountain Guns are running around $850 to $900 and are hard to find at that price (same price for 44m and 44 colt, it seems, though the 44acp JMs are more expensive). Just as a price point reference. Two weeks ago I picked up a 610 4" used in excellent shape for $600 (private party, no sales tax). Same frame and these should sell for the same price (short term fickle demand not withstanding).
Seems like the prices for S&W revolvers are all over the place. In the last two months I bought a 625-8 stainless 4" for 500 out the door and passed on a 25-5 4" Colt for 600 though having second thoughts about passing on that one. Both were used and from a dealer.
I know NIB has a premium but there all over the place too.

Dash numbers matter in discussions of this type, pre-lock/mim guns go for more money today.

I purchased the 3" that was on the forum last week for $750. While it was in much better shape than I expected, it had been used as a carry piece. Several marks on it and no box or papers. I bought it to carry so I was not as concerned as some might have been with those issues.
In my opinion, a NIB Model of 1989, will be hard to find for less than $1200 unless you happen to be in the right place at the right time.

It's interesting that that one sat for few days or longer with no takers. I asked for pics it was in pretty good shape for a carry gun.
