I purchased this 625-6 3" in 45 acp from a fellow member here a little over a year ago now. I only got the gun, no box or anything else with it. Once I learned they only made a few of them (for Lew Horton), I tried to find out what I had.

In talking to Earl Minot at Lew Horton, he said "Nice gun, but it didn't come through here." So I'm scratching my head again. I fired several boxes of ammo through it and really like the soft way it shoots, not to mention how good it groups. So I just figured it was going to remain a mystery.

But in the back of my mind, everytime I took it out, I started wondering again how it came to be. Finally I decided to send the information and photos to Roy and see if he could tell me anything. And he DID!

It was actually a run of 73 guns,.......with 5" barrels, sold in March of 1999. A year and a half later, it was returned to the factory and it left with a 3" barrel.

It sounds like being one of 73 would be pretty interesting, except it's not a 5"er anymore. I doubt that I would have bought it as a 5" gun, because I really wanted a 3" anyway.

I almost sold it once, but I'm glad now that I didn't. It feels just right as it is and since I've been shooting it, I like it even more. Mystery solved.

Interesting back story. I would have snapped up the snubby before the 5" also

The 3" N-frames are cool guns. I have a few in different calibers but I tend to gravitate toward the moon clipped revolver :)

It appears that in addition to having the barrel changed, the previous owner had a Patridge front sight installed on the 3"

Typically the 3" guns shipped with ramp front sight for a smoother draw from your concealed holster

Nice revolver, I like, but I'm a little confused.

You say it's a 45ACP.

Roy said it shipped as a 5" bbl. 45 Colt.

So besides replacing the 5" bbl., with a 3" bbl., the cylinder was also changed from a 45 Colt to a 45ACP ??

Roy says it (the barrel) was probably changed at that time but doesn't say anything about a cylinder change.

Not trying to diminish your joy in it, but those alterations greatly change how it shipped originally from the factory.

Am I missing something?

The 625 is almost as confusing as the model 60.I have a 3 and 5 inch model 625-6 in .45ACP. Their serial number prefix is CCS for the 3 inch, and CEA For the 5 inch.
