625-8 JM

I bought a 625 JM last month. On the yoke it has CRT 1xxx and 625-8. On the part that opens with the cylinder there is what looks like a hand etched four digit number. I thought the Jerry Miculak revolvers had serial number that began with JMxxxxx. It had the Miculak wooden grip and side plate.

My 625-8 also has a non "JM" serial number. I believe the "JM" serial numbers were used when the model was first introduced and then later dropped. The SN's now are just in line with the other 625/N Frame guns.

The hand etched number is most likely an "assembly number" and loses its meaning entirely once the gun leaves the factory. It's just used to keep parts together during assembly.

Do they no longer stamp the serial number on the butt? I remember that that used to be a problem for guys who wanted to do square to round butt conversions.

Thanks for the input. The serial number is on the bottom of the handgrip frame also. Matches the one in the yoke.

I have a 625JM the serial number is JMP0701.
It is on the end of the handle under the wood.
