625 bbl lenth

I'm new to s&w guns. When reading and looking at the cool short Bbl 45 acp 625 guns are they 2 inch or 2.5 or 3 ?

I see the 3 inch on gun broker but they seem to be 1000.00 range . I assume they are Lew Horton or collector. The pictures I see look like a sp 101 2.5 bbl just dont know. I do understand its measured from the cylinder but just looking at pictures cant tell length.

I also am looking for a JM 625 4" 45 acp and need to ask is the PC 625 4" 45 acp a better gun with more features since they bring more than the jm 625 gun and are special from smith.
I think the 625 JM 4" 45 from reading this sight is a good shooter and fun gun . I read the fourm last night but still not sure.

If you could find or buy either gun would you pay the extra for the PC 625 4" 45 gun ?

I can only speak for the 625JM. It is not Performance Center gun but it is, indeed, a good shooter and a fun gun.

I purchased a S&W 625 PC 4" earlier this year. It is a great shooter. Aside from cosmetics I would say the main difference between a 625 PC and a 625 JM is that the Performance Center goes through the gun and performs a trigger job on it and really works to make sure the internal parts are finished off well. I think it is worth paying the difference. I believe you can pick up 625 PC's for about $850.

To answer your first question, the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson 3d Edition lists both 2" and 3" 625s (as well as 4", 5", 5 1/4", 6", and 6 1/2"). I think the 325 Night Guard has a 2 1/2" barrel.

I prefer the PC's. I have a 625 in the 5 inch barrel and a 686 in a 4 inch. They are both really smooth shooters and laser accurate. Plus I think that they hold their value better. Post pictures when you make your choice.

Never heard of a 5, 5 1/4, 6, 6 1/2 " 625.

Model 625 production guns had barrels in 3, 4 and 5 inches. PC guns have had barrels in 2, 4.25 and 5.25 inches. The 6 or 6.5 inch barrels were limited runs only in .45 Colt (Powerport, etc).

The 2" version had an alloy frame and fixed sights. Or you could just buy a leftover barrel from Numrich and make your own, like this...

Mr Sinko, that is one cool revolver! The ejector rod looks pretty short. Do you have any issues with ejection?

As far as the barrel lengths, I don't know how many were made in some of the unusual lengths. The SCSW doesn't list it. Each of those barrel lengths has a factory product code. KurtC is correct. The 6" and 6 1/2" guns are 45 Colt. There were PC guns mde in 3", 4", and 5" guns too. The SCSW lists 35 different product codes for the 625.

The ejector rod and center pin had to be shortened but I do not have any problems with ejection. The case mouths are right at the edge of the cylinder at full ejector rod stroke. The most difficult part was the welding up of the front sight to get it to shoot to the sights with 250 gr. bullets.

Also, some of the 625 versions were made with short cylinders. I would never go out of my way for one with a short cylinder but some people seem to like them. Actually, the -10 also had a short cylinder and my barrel had to be modified accordingly to fit my long cylinder -4.

The recent 3" 625's on GB have been Model of 1989 versions, IIRC one auction didn't meet reserve at $1,200. Generally speaking they are highly sought after guns so NIB or LNIB examples fetch big dough.

Thanks Guys I think I got it now.

I got a 624 JM 4" on the way it seems you can get a new one for close to the price of used ones on Gun Broker.

I am going to get a GOV. also looks like fun gun. It didnt take me long to decide NO on the 625 3" they look great BUT. I wonder if they will ever make a run on them again?

Congrats on deciding and ordering one. Hard to go wrong with any of the choices. And yes, I've bought new for less than gunbroker prices. It's good to check prices. I paid $75 less for my Talo 686+ 3" at one shop than a standard 686+ 3" cost at another shop 15 minutes away. Nice to have a bunch of local gunshops.
