I recently purchased a 625-8 JM revolver. Shoots great. Started cleaning it and noticed the outside circumference of the barrel that protrudes into the frame has a significant burr around it. Large enough it cut my finger and cleaning wipe. It seems to be made that way. Does anyone know if there is a purpose for that or just left over from machining?

Welcome to the FORUM! A fine file should take care of it. Just take it slow & easy. Congrats on the 625. You are sure to enjoy it! My JM. Bob

A strip of wet / dry 220 or 400 sandpaper, long enough to wrap around the barrel so you can work it back and forth.
If it's really bad you might have to hit it with a stone a little then finish it with the sandpaper.

Had the same thing on my 929 a couple years ago. If you tried a speed load with it , it was going to make you bleed.

I have had a sharp edge on several Smith revolvers on the end of the forcing cone. I use a small diamond honing stone and debur just the sharp edge.
