There are many ways to change revolvers up by machining.

One that I was wondering about was the following.

I have read that a 625 .45 acp can be machined to shoot 460 Rolland rounds.

Is it possible to machine a 625 .45 acp to shoot long Colt?

If not why? ask and learn. thank you.mike
 
I can't answer that. I have a 625JM, and wanted it for the .45 ACP cartridge it shoots. Brass is easy to get, bullets etc. Not that expensive to shoot either.

Could only speculate, but in terms of your premise, why terminate S&W support on a good gun, when it would bring good money toward a real .45 Colt?

I would expect that you would need a new cylinder (without the moonclip cut). ICBW
 
Mike, all S&W revolvers chambered in 45 A.C.P. have short
cylinders as only necessary for the A.C.P. round.
And the whole rear face of the cylinder is machined
forward to make clearance for 6 rounds of moonclipped 45 auto.
There is also a step mid way in the cylinder chamber so loose
rounds can headspace on the case mouth( as all 45 ACP
normally does ) so they can be fired without moon clips.
This ridge would have to be reamed out so a 45 Colt
round would even enter a ACP cylinder.


It is possible to machine the rear of a 45 Colt cylinder
to accept moonclipped 45 ACP. T.K. custom does this.

Thank you for the clear explanation. There is a whole lot of engineering that goes into this stuff. Thats why I scratch my head when I think of Browning doing this with out CAD and computers, or modern milling machines.
