Picked up this ~2005/2006 S&W Performance Center 627-5 .357 Mag 8-shot at the Charlie Dickerson auction in Las Cruces last weekend. It appears to have been dropped or skidded, showing some scruff marks, needs a new front sight and rear sight blade, but it's mechanically sound, tight, and the trigger is light and smooth. Screws not buggered, I don't think the sideplate has ever been off. Thought about sending it to S&W for refurb but while cleaning it today I thought it's good enough to shoot and enjoy once the sights are installed. So, whaddya think about the front sight - gold bead, red ramp, optical green or red?

I put a Gold bead on mine.

I guess I am old school, I just can't to like the fiber optic sights.

Yours is considerably worse than mine was when I got it, but it cleaned up nice. I cleaned off the gunk, polished the flutes and barrel flats, and filled some of the engraving with black nail polish to make it pop a little more.

I am not a huge fan of the bead, I would have installed a fiber optic but it's not a big enough upgrade. I have too many other gun projects in line before that one...

@hkcavalier,
How did you polish your 627? I want to clean up the cylinder face and blend the rub/drag marks. The dings and deep scratches, well, that's "character".
