Hello everyone I finally received my new 627-5 performance center this week, was going to go to the range today but Murphy stuck his finger in and it's raining. But tomorrow I'm going, excited to see how it feels,the fit and finish is spot on and the action is great. Let you know later how it went, but here it is anyway.

This is the 627 I don't have yet. I asked my LGS/range for availability of this or the 4" 627 Pro two years ago. The 5" PC was not available, so I ordered the 4" Pro which turned out to be the finest revolver I own. The snub 2 5/8" 627 is also a lovely revolver, but I still want this 5 incher.

OP: Many thanks for the crisp close-in photos of your 627. Love to hear how it shoots!

LEMON

I bought the 4 inch used for a very good price. I quickly found out why the price was good. The trigger was gritty. The cylinder was difficult to open. Finally, the hammer seemed to have a rough spot when thumb cocked.

I removed the side plate and found the action full of a red gritty goup. I cleaned it out and noticed the internal lock was not completely off. Using the key, I turned it off and removed the key. The da__ lock immediately returned to it's prior position. I had a stainless plug I intended to use on another revolver so I installed it. Finally, I buffed the contact surfaces on the cylinder latches and ejector rod. It was still harder to open then I any thing I had before on certain stops. Since I didn't intend it as a carry gun, I installed a competition thumb latch. The acton still seemed rough even after I polished some of the parts so I had a trigger job done by Pinnacle Gunsmithing.

I finally have one of the best shooters in my stable. I guess any manufacturer can turn out a lemon once in a while. I have been a Smith tinker since the 70s before we got fancy and called them "armorers". I have never worked on one with so many different issues but so little mileage. I still haven't figured out what the red gritty goup was.

Just wish I had more time and funds to shoot all of my nice Smiths from the PC, they really are a pleasure to shoot at the range. Or maybe I'm just getting too old for the wonderful .357 magnum round, heaven forbid!

The last word on the left side of the barrel is times, as in 8 times (8 shots).

I have a pair of the PC -3’s V-Comp 627’s. Bottom is a Jerry Miculek series but both are very similar and show little use. Top is waiting on a barrel swap if can find a 4” tapered, otherwise will have to go with a current slab side tapered lug like on the Pro Series. If anyone has one...

Want to add that the 8-shot N's are fun to shoot and the 5" removable comp models are some of the funnest.
