I am looking at a 627 target listed for sale. It claims that it is a limited production run made in 1989, it has a magnaported barrel and a smooth cylinder with no flutes. Anyone have any info on this model, asking price is $700.

The Model of 1989 is a sought after model. It has a 5 1/2" barrel, unfluted cylinder and is a six shot gun.
Only problem is that it was not magna ported as original from the factory.
The gun is quite heavy, so magna porting wouldn't really be a requirement unless it was used to shoot some really heavy loads, I'd check the gun carefully for wear and tightness.
To me the $700 price is a little stiff given it's not original, but that's up to you.

CS, I too, think $700 is on the high side being that the gun is magnaported.

SmithNut, I like that word under your name.

The "Model of 1989" says so right on the barrel. The initial runs of 274 had the frames marked 627. A second run of 5000 had longer cylinder stop notches and the frames were marked 627-0. The photos below are of a 627-0.

Mine's ported, had it done myself. I even had the red sight insert replaced with a lime green one and an action job.

Without a doubt, this is a fine pistol.

For a purist, it's an abomination to port, but back in the day I wasn't aware of collector values, I wanted the best possible pistol.

Firing hot 170g Keith's over ridiculous amounts of 296, this is tame as a .38spl +P.

I even had the muzzle crowned - sacrilege!
