627 Pro Concern

I have what appears to be some powder burn marks forward on the cylinder between the flutes. It looks like possibly some hot stuff gets in the hole where the sight retaining screw comes through the top strap and mars the cylinder. Maybe the powder I'm using (Unique)? There is no lead spitting and the F/C Cyl. gap is .005
The gun shoots fine. I have looked at many pictures of 627's I have only seen one or two with these marks. Probably just cosmetic but, is this normal?

yes, and it should clean right off with some solvent. My 627-5 does the same thing. It's just a little carbon that gets directed to that spot via the sight screw hole.

My 627 Pro does the same thing and I'm using Clays with cast bullets. I was also concerned having not seen carbon build up at that location before on my other revolvers. I had a conversation with my trusted gunsmith and was assured that it was nothing to worry about.

Now that I've seen the photo...(Thanks to "nossew") dah...the light went on and I can see where the carbon is coming from. Thanks !

My Performace Center model 27-8 five inch, 8 shot, Lew Horton does the same thing. It's worse on my 27-8 compared to any my others...

Hmmm, all my guns do that. One cylinder is all it takes. Especially with 357. 38s not too bad. Harder to see on the blued ones. Totally normal.

You need to get rid of it before it becomes a problem. I'll cover shipping to my FFL...

Seriously, all my revolvers do that. My 629 my do it a touch more than others but then again it's so big I may just notice it more. I'm dying to get my hands on a 627! If I had one it would be so damn dirty you wouldn't be able to tell were the smudge stops.

Thanks for the replies, now I feel foolish for asking, which is good I guess. I just never noticed on my other revolvers.
