I don't have my SCSW handy. Did S&W ever make an 8 shot 627 with a round full underlug barrel? I've only seen the slabside PC versions.

Great pictures are always appreciated!

I don't know about a full underlug 627 with a barrel that looks like a 686, rather than the slab-sided PC barrel (assuming that is what you mean by "round full underlug barrel"). But, it does not sound familiar.

They did, however, make a 4 inch 627 that looks just like a standard production 629 with the standard ejector shroud (I despise the term "half-lug," as it usually isn't a "half lug"). Thus, the barrel was a round barrel with a straight wall, rather than tapered like the Mountain Gun barrel, if that makes sense. Here is a pic from a Google search:

The full underlug 627 was the "Model of 1989," as seen below in the middle of the three (a 657 and a 686 are top and bottom). Mine is a 627-0 with a 5½" barrel.

Wow! I have the Pro Series and like it a lot.
Does anyone have one of these with the round barrel and "half lug" for sale? I'm trolling the forum's for sale listings but don't see one.

Never seen one for sale bit will keep my eye out!

Can someone post more pics?

I had one when they first came out, sold it when the Pro Series arrived. I liked the fact the Pro had the interchangeable front sight and was cut for moon clips, all for about $100 more.

The 627 round barrel is very hard to find, I looked a long, long time and finally "settled" on a 627 pro. Yes I know the pro as more standard features, but it's not what I wanted. Now if I see one on GB or GA the asking price is way north of $1000, n their getting it. Great gun, just can't seem to find one

I bought my 8 shot 627-5 round barrel "half lug" when I stumbled across it in lightly used condition at a small gun shop a few years ago. I had recently gotten rid of my vastly inferior 8 shot .38 Super and wanted an 8 shot .357 Magnum. I can't stand the sight of flat sided barrels (especially when they are 4" long or longer) and this revolver was perfect for me. I had the cylinder cut for moonclips and installed a .265" grooved trigger. This is one of my favorite and most useful revolvers and it even gives my 625s a run for their money.

No, you can't find one with a full lug and I don't think there is even a full lug barrel that will fit an 8 shot frame. If you desperately want one you'll need to have it made from scratch and that will cost some dollars.

Here's the x8 Slabside PC model...have not seen the other....

Nice looking 627. I have a 627 that started out as one of those (LHV serial # prefix)...one of the previous owners swapped out the original barrel for a standard 5" PC barrel. Since the 627 is no longer original and finding the "Hunter" style barrel will be about impossible I'm considering sending it in to PC and have them throw on a snub barrel and a fluted cylinder....a pre-lock UDR for half the going price.
