Got a pretty decent deal on it. $840 including S&H and FFL fees.

NIB... I feel pretty good about it. Going to be getting rid of a another couple items to offset the cost.

Now, just need to find moon clips that work with Starline and Remington brass. The S&W factory clips only work with Winchester from what I have read.

What are other folks finding works or doesn't work with a brand of brass?

If the factory moon clips will work with Winchester Brass they must come with .020 TK Custom Match Moon Clips from the factory. My 442 Pro Moon Clip came with TK .025 Clips.

TK List 3 different Moon Clips for the 627.

Number 1: .020 TK Custom Match for Winchester Brass & Hornady Brass

Number 2: .022 Stamped Blue Clips Generic Fit listed as fitting most brass.

Number 3: .025 HearthCo Match For Remington & Starline Brass. They should be the most heavy duty of the 3 listed.

I have gallon Jugs of 38 Special Brass of about every brand that I have gathered up the last 40+ years. What I have done is sorted out my Remington and Federal Brass to use with Moon Clips.
In Remington I sort the ones with RP Head Stamp Only.
They seem to all fit in my .025 Clips.
All the UMC, REM-UMC, and Peters brass goes back in the jug for general purpose use. You cannot count on it all fitting in the .025 Clips.

With Federal I sort out the ones with Federal spelled out. I have found FC headstamp that is to tite to fit in the clips.

I have plenty of brass with RP headstamp, and lately I have just sorting it out.

I have not checked all Winchester Brass out. So I am not sure about all of it being the same either. You have Winchester, WW, WRA, Western, I believe WCC is Winchester, and I believe a couple other head stamps.

The First Step is deciding what Brass to use. Then get the correct moon clips to fit it.

If you have lots of range brass you will probably discover sorting all the brands is a real pain. I have almost 100 different head stamps collected. I gained 2 more last week. One was only marked 38 SPL on the bottom, No Maker on the top. I thought that was interesting. I recommend sorting by RP or (WW / Winchester) Only depending on which clips one wishes to use.

(WW / Winchester) and RP will no doubt be the most common head stamps for Range Brass.

To answer the Question The HearthCo Moon Clips that are .025 should work fine with RP and Starline Brass. TK can fix you up.

I have a PC627, I use Ranch moon clips and a B.M.T. loader.
Like the ones that came with the gun the clips measure .023". I never sort brass, have all diferent brands and have never found one that didn't work perfectly.

My 627's came with Ranch Product moonclips - and they load fine by hand with Starline and Remington brass. I like the nutdriver demooner, like Brownell's has, as it will stow eight empties in it's tube while you reach for the ziploc bag to store them in. It's ~$16-$18 - and worth it. I've seen folks use a taped handle filed hunk of water pipe, but after spending so much for a gun, certainly a few bucks more could be found for the demooner. Poney up for some R-P moonclips, too - they were 50/$50 or 100/$75 shipped in blue steel. Nice folks, too.

Also - don't forget '5starfirearms.co' and their machined aluminum speedloader and baseplate - the speedloader and 2 x 8 baseplate are a must have - called the 'Bedside Kit' (see above).

Starline and R-P tend to be the thickest in the web area and easy to extract from cylinders even with full power loads.

I'll see how the included clips work with the brass I have and then go from there.

4 more days till it ships. I have Hogue grips on order as well. Waiting to see how it goes with those before I go crazy with something else.

Will round butt K frame grips fit?

Since the short barrel 627 is not normally seen in competition, I assume it will be used where fast reloads are not critical. If that is the case, the Ranch Product moonclips will work just fine. The TK custom and Hearthco moonclips are the way to go when lightning fast reloads are required. They hold the cases more rigidly so that all 8 cases line up easily with the chambers. The Ranch products moonclips run about $1.00 each while the TK moonclips run about $4.00 each. If you are feeling rich you can opt for the Hearthco moonclips at $6.00 each.

I use the cheap moonclips (I'm not even sure who makes them) which I think I got from Brownell's. I use Federal and R-P brass with full power cast bullet loads in IDPA matches and I never have any problems of any kind. Sometimes they get stepped on and I think they're destroyed, but once the cartridge cases are removed they always spring back into shape and are as good as new. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm very happy with the moonclipped 8x.357 revolver and how versatile and trouble free it really is. I recently bought a pair of 5 Star speedloaders for added versatility. You can't go wrong with those either.

How about Tuff strips?

As stated by wantmoresmiths, I don't envision your snubbie being a competition revolver...it's a carry gun or console gun. I usually carry my 2-5/8" 627PC in my H-D saddlebags or in the truck console. I thought about moonclips, but they're a PITA to carry around. I bought a couple of 8-round Tuff strips from Brownell's, as well as a 5 Star speedloader (not cheap!). The speedloader rides along when traveling, but I've usually got at least one Tuff strip in my pocket. I'm not expecting to ever get into a raging gun battle where I need more than 16 rds. of .357!

Just took ownership of my 627 snub nose. I put the Hogue monogrips on it and they feel perfect!

I noticed the nose length on my loads needs to be just as short as it is on my 28-4 revolver. No full length "keith" bullets like I can stick in my Rugers.

That's OK, though. I am using some of the NOE 180gr WFNGC hollow points and they have a shorter OAL.

The Remington 158gr 38spl +P LWCHP rounds look like they "belong" in there. ;)
