Wondering if anybody knows how many were produced, or has one lettered. I know they are somewhat rare finds, but how rare.

Must of been really small because I've never even seen or heard of one. Sources say 1,000 of the 5-inch V-Comp M627's were made.

Do you know the product code of the gun you're interested in? It's a 6-digit number that begins with "1". That would be the unique number associated with that one specific gun, and no other.

It's product code 170182. Made in 2001. OP, if you find one, start a thread and post some pics.

Yes I found one, and have heard several stories on them . Like 150 was ordered for RSR, but only 60 something were really produced. Looking for someone who has a letter on one ... Here she is laying on my bed....

I bought my 627 V-Comp 3" new at auction in September, 2002. Came with the S&W aluminum Performance Center gun case. Great revolver. Display it and never shot it.

627-3 3" V-Comp

Picked one up second hand with an aluminum Performance Center case.

Great little revolver. Shoots good, feels good. If any of you have one laying around and don't want it... let me know.

As far as number produced this one is JMA01xx. Less than 150 and more than 125. Will try to get a picture up later.

It is referenced in the Standard Catalog 4th edition, but is probably a typo, on page 434 (product code 170182) as "M-627-3 4" w/ Comp RSR Special."

However, on page 452 the same product code is listed as "...3" with cap and compensator RSR special 627-3 2000."

$960.00. It was on consignment in a small gun shop in a relatively small town.

It sat there on the bottom shelf for 5 months before the shop owner got the consignment customer to let me have it for that price.

He started at $1,300.00 which, I now realize, was a good price to begin with. The revolver had been lightly used and was in great shape.
I was just trying to exercise self-control and it worked out. I always offered $900 cash. The last attempt I threw an extra $60 at it and bingo.

It took me seven drop-in visits on my return trips from an out of town job to make it happen.

What I don't understand is why the shop owner or the owner of the gun never did their homework to check it out.

I knew what it was as I already have a 627-3 in the 5" but I did not know how scarce the 3" was until I got it home and started researching it.

I guess it is true that a blind pig will find an acorn every now and then.:D

Wow, just wow, on the price and that it sat in the shop for so long! That right there is probably my absolute top grail gun. I would snatch one up in a second, and I'd expect (and be very willing to pay) a price tag starting with a 2. You did very well there!
