The S&W web site states that for the 627 V-Comp "CAN BE SHOT WITHOUT MOON CLIPS"

The web site for the TRR8 DOES NOT state can or can't be shot without moon clips.

Is it safe to shoot the TRR8 w/o moon clips?

Thanks

ALL revolvers that are S&W Factory enabled to use moon clips and chamber rimmed cartridges can be used with or with out the clips.

This includes the 38 Special, 357 Magnum, 44 Magnum and more.

This is true.. I received the following email from S&W on this very question...
Hello ross,

You can use the R8 with or without moonclips.

Tim,

How long have you had your TRR8? I am picking mine up this friday. What can you tell me about your experience?

I really found the gun VERY accurate. Thumb got a little sore pulling the hammer back at the range so often:) Make sure and bring a screw driver with you to set the rear sight. I didn't the first time at the range.

I used mostly .38's at the range. Felt recoil was minimal at most. Your gonna have fun.

I have a 327 M&P R8 (not the TRR8) which is a similar revolver and it is fantastic. Most of my shooting has been without using moon clips and I have never had an ignition problem.

A quick and easy cure for abrading your thumb on the hammer is to shoot double action only :) Double action is where my R8 really shines, the smooth and silky action gives phenomenal accuracy and precision.

Hi,

I recently picked up a TRR8 and it's awesome! It is very accurate and is a great shooter. I really like the trigger too. I am more fond of it then my 686 for sure.

The wear on the frame looks like a misaligned yoke or some problem with the gas check.

The TRR8 can be used with or without moon clips. The bare cartridge rim is supported on about 1/2 of its circumference. The cylinder is recessed for the clip just inside the outer perimeter and about half of the extractor tips.

I just got one and took it for a spin last week. It is amazingly accurate, and heavy enough to absorb recoil.

I have a TRR8 and just absolutely love the dang thing. It is dream to shoot, accurate as it can be in both single and double action and I do not use the moon clips. This could easily be my favorite Smith revolver.
