I decided to thin the herd down a few years back and sold about 80.
Age and health concerns make it prudent for me to thin the herd again.
I bought this 629-1 Classic Hunter in November, 1988.
I was traveling to Detroit on business and dropped it off at Larry Kelly's to have it MagnaPorted.
It's got Millet rear sight, Miculeck grips, and a polished finish.
It has the original box and papers as well as the original Hogue grips.
I have been trying to find another one on Gunbroker or some gun site to get an idea of the value but haven't found a single one.
I did find a 6" 629-3 Classic Hunter currently on GB, as well as two 3" 629 CHs (a -2 & a -4), and an 83/8" 629 CH that the seller doesn't list the revision.
But no 6" 629-1 Classic Hunters.
Anyway, what's the consensus of its value?
Thanks
James

As with any altered gun, the value is in between the eye of the beholder and the seller, but I'd say $900 or so in its current state. FWIW, I just bought the same gun last weekend at a LGS for $900. However, it was in original condition, with the box and all the goodies. It did have a B&L 2X scope on it, and was missing the rear sight.

The porting reduces the value by 10% compared to un unmodified gun. It also reduces the market considerably.

I love nickel Smith revolvers but dislike polished stainless steel. That feature reduces the value to me by another 10%.

Using $900.00 as the base for an unmodified gun, I think you'll do well to price it at. $750.00 and be fortunate to get that.

That Millet rear sight is worth taking off and selling separately. A replacement S&W sight would cost less than the Millet would probably bring since they are no longer made. And I concur what was posted earlier regarding the porting and polishing - both are negatives for me.
