Report of Active Shooter at Annapolis/Naval Academy

There is an initial report of an active shooter at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. The Academy is on lockdown and at least one very seriously injured person has been evacuated by helicopter. One report states shooter is a recently separated midshipman.

Lots of potential possibilities there: domestic, psychological pressures, attack by non-Academy person.

Just read a release from local Anapolis paper and Wes Moore's Office.

Sounds like there were threats, which have been called into several colleges across the country lately.

While responding it sounds as if there was an accidental shooting and the victim was transported to a medical facility via helicopter.

Did not say who had been shot or how the "accident" happened.

Sounds like someone popped out of the wrong place at the wrong time but without more details it is not clear.

FWIW: NBC is reporting that a police officer was misidentified and got jumped by midshipmen. One of the midshipmen got shot and was transported. Being called a case of mistaken identity and an accident.

FWIW: NBC is reporting that a police officer was misidentified and got jumped by midshipmen. One of the midshipmen got shot and was transported. Being called a case of mistaken identity and an accident.

The victim here is distant family. This is from his father:


We got a text from him that there was an active shooter on his floor. He also sent a bunch of screenshots and info coming from leadership at the academy, stating to shelter in place and dont let anyone in your room, as the shooter was disguised as military police. We called him and were on the phone with him the whole time. We heard people running by his room with guns multiple times, yelling out f bombs. He had barricaded his door already. Then he heard them coming back, and they stopped at his room, realized it was barricaded and kicked his door down. Drew said "I'm ****ed. He's coming in. I love you!"

We heard the whole scuffle. Drew bashed the guy coming in with his training rifle. Then the shot. He then dropped and others came in the room asking if he was shot and began rendering aid. It was an MP kicking his door down. Never yelled in the room or anything. Just yelled "it's ****ing barricaded" and started coming in.

Drew was airlifted to Baltimore for medical attention and is stable and in good spirits. He acted heroically, and we are beyond proud. We wasn't going to go down without a fight. That said, what a **** show of misinformation and mishandling of a situation that almost cost our son his life. More to follow in coming days. I just wanted to let you all know that he is ok, and we are grateful for your love and support. Thank you.

Thankfully, we have the news media disseminating enough misinformation and disinformation that at 1010 it is still unclear what happened. The police have become the focal point by some news outlets.

Several colleges have reported threats the last couple of days. The last group not too long ago reportedly came from a foreign country. Seems awfully suspicious to me.

We got the news through a family member who knows a midshipman there. I've read several reports and am thoroughly confused about who did what and how it came about, but two people got injured, thank goodness not seriously.
