629-1 configuration specs??

Can anyone tell me if the 629-1's had a round or square butt? grooved backstrap?

My 629-1 is square butt with target grips. I think it is grooved on the backstrap but I'm traveling and can't look to be positive.

Unless your gun has a 3" barrel, it should be a square butt gun.

I found one this past weekend and put it on layaway. I thought all 629-1's had a round butt and smooth backstrap. This one has a wrap around pachmayer on it so I couldn't tell right off. I got thinking about this after the fact and started to wonder about it. The reason I ask is that I find my buddies 29-2 with sq and grooved backstrap hurts the web of my hand when I shoot it.

Do all square butt guns have the grooved backstrap?

... if its smooth I think it will work.

This one is the 629-1 standard contour 6" barrel.
