629-1 looks like a hunter model. 6 inch barrel. Owner states he bought it new in appox 1980 put in drawer and never fired it. Has box and papers. What do you think for value?

You can always check the prices of these guns on the auction sites. But this is just a guess, I would tend to think the 629-1 with the original box and goodies, would start around $800 and probably higher. The older revolvers are holding their price. Good Luck, Ray

You got her right there...a 629-4 Prelock just sold for 775 Shipped on Forum last night...I would guess an older variant like the 629-1 would bring 800-900...

That model is not seen very often around these parts. Not sure how many they made, and I think his date is off by more than a few years. If you can get the whole package for anything close to 8 bills, I'd jump on it.

I just did a little research on that model last week as a guy had a 629-3 Classic hunter for sale on another forum. There were 5,000 629-1 and 629-2 Classic hunters made and an additional run of 2,000 629-3s followed in 1991. The rarest version - there were just four 629-1 versions made with the four-position silhouette front sight.
Oddly, that aftermarket Hogue Monogrip apparently was factory equipment on those guns instead of the usual one with S&W logos and speedloader cutouts on both sides. The guy on the other forum was asking $1,000 for his and it was not as pristine as Rahjerz's.

I picked up a 629-4 with 4" bbl. last week at a LGS. Unfired with the box & all papers. Gave $700 out the door and am happy with that. It is no longer unfired
So...I would say that the gun in question would bring $800+ around here. Don't see those very often.

Thanks....as they say, "Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then"! I got lucky on this one...really lucky. I work part time at this shop & was standing behind the counter when the owner walked in looking to trade the gun. He had bought the gun new for his Dad back in the mid '90's...Dad recently passed & he inherited the gun. The guy had his son with him and was looking to trade for something the kid wanted...tacticool BS of some sort. The owner obliged him
and was in the gun right. Told him I had dibs & just set the gun in the back as we were busy...Christmas Eve day.Now it gets good.....we closed the shop at 4:00...at 6:00 pm my darling wife goes to the owners house and asks if he knows of anything I might want. Long story short, Christmas Day I open my last present and see the S&W box...knew exactly what it was, but could not figure out what it was doing under the tree
Stunned is an understatement. She might be a keeper!Although I was standing there when the previous owner told the history of the gun, I had my doubts about it being unfired after a close inspection. The cylinders and barrel were filthy. Turned out to be dust and cobwebs
Wiped right out with one pass of a bore mop. Took me until the 26th to fix the unfired part
