I got dragged to an antique show with the GF and there were a few booths with guns. Most of them were beat, but I stumbled upon this guy in a random display case. It's a 629-2 with the matte finish and 4" pencil barrel, which I believe makes it part of the 1989 run of 5000 of these. Some Googling suggests these are the proper Pachmayr grip for it.

It didn't come with the box or any papers. Lockup is very tight. It had been fired, but it cleaned up pretty well. There are a few rub marks in the matte finish. I ended up giving him $750 for it, and I was able to pay with a credit card.

Can anyone confirm this is one of the Mountain Revolvers?

It should say "Mountain Revolver" on the side of the barrel. Later versions say "Mountain Gun" on the barrel.

This one does not say Mountain anything anywhere on the gun, and I have never seen a picture of a 629-2 that had Mountain etched on it. Do you have a picture of one that has that on it?

629-2 Mountain Revolver. This thread has several pictures of them and I don't see Mountain anywhere.

Here is my 625 in .45 ACP. Sorry for the outdoor pics, makes it a little harder to see the etchings. Don't know much about the 629 version but all the mountain guns I've seen are labeled on the barrel like mine and the box label. Your example looks like a nice gun for a solid price whether is a "mountain gun" or not. Plus it has the same features with the tapered barrel!
