I purchased a 629-2, I believe a mountain revolver from serial number. It has wooden S&W combat grips, it should have pachmayrs. Factory box was included. I hope I bought it right at $700 it was in Farm store gun section. Pics will follow when I get it home. It has a 4 in tapered barrel serial BDW02XX

That's an excellent price for that package. The combats are a bonus. Look them up on GB or Ebay. Depending on condition, $200 and up. Replacement Pachs should be fairly easy to replace. Congrats on a great score.

No ,No mask, we will see when I get it home and inspect it very carefully. I bought it because I was looking for something lighter than my 5 in classic 629. It felt nice in my hands, hopefully with 240 hard cast rds it will be a great shooter

I passed on a 29-3 - 6" today. could have picked it up for $425 plus the CA extra charges so it would have come out to just about $500. It is on consignment at the gun shop I frequent but it was rusty with some light pitting on the frame and barrel and I nearly brought it to restore until I popped the side plate. The internal parts were filthy and rusty plus the internal parts of the extractor, rod, spring and etc. were also covered in rust. If I purchased it and sent it back to S&W for a high polish blue, they'd probably replace most, if not all of the lock works and the extractor and internal parts. If I did all this and then it had Packmyer (sp?) grips so I had planned to put a nice set of Culinas on it. Now all I could see were pieces of paper with $ signs on them floating out my window. I came close but hope I did the best thing by passing. I already have a very nice 29-2 and my 629-6 so I really don't need another.

The Mountain Revolver is a nice package. Recoil is a bit stout for sustained shooting of full power loads (at least for me). Mine really shines with 200 grain Blazer Gold dots. I bought it for hiking in the mountains...go figure.
The original grips were modified k frame pachmayrs. They will be hard to replace exactly, but you are much better off with the combat grips. I replaced mine with a set of Grasshorns stag grips and Tyler T-grip. I also had Dawson precision make a Partridge front sight with a tritium insert.
I like it.

Yes that’s a 629-2 Mountain Revolver. Nice score! The bead blast finish and tapered barrel is a dead giveaway.

FYI, they came from the factory with Pachmayr K frame round butt Grippers. N frame RB Grippers didn’t exist at the time and the K’s stretch a little and fit just fine. They certainly help with recoil, which can be quite stout with the lighter 4” barrel. These are pre-endurance package and it’s probably a good idea to not feed them a steady diet of heavy magnum loads.
