Mfg date mostly and not sure of the -3

Welcome to the forum Floyd. The BFF-xxxx serial # dates your gun to 1990. Is yours a standard or full lug barrel?

Standard barrel. I thought it would be an earlier mfg. It hasn't been tapped threaded for a scope mount.

The -3 indicates it's the third variation of that model. When S&W makes changes to a model, rather than give it a new number, they add the dash and next digit in line. I believe they are up to -10 now (but not sure).
