Hi everyone,

I got a chance to pick up a 629-3 with the TT & TH and 4 or 5" barrel, (cant remember, but it is not a Mountain gun and is fully lugged), it has seen use and needs a little TLC (cleaning and mild repolish) but I think it would make a great 44 platform in general. It checks out fine and has the black powder bevel on the cylinder and the Smith/Hogue type rubber grips with silver S/W insert (are they orginal?) I already have a 629MG so I'm not in need of a new gun but hate to pass up a good deal on a no lock Smith. What say you of the forum? Is it worth it?

Thanks everyone,

The gun you describe is most likely a 629 Classic Stainless with a 5 inch barrel. The rubber Hogues with silver S&W medallions are original to this gun. They look like the ones below that I installed on my 629 Mountain Revolver. ( same grips, different gun :) )

If it's in good shape and mechanically sound I would say that's a good price

Thanks everyone,

Yes thoes are the grips and that looks like my mountain gun ;) I may have to go back and check it out again, because it did check out mechanically and I do like pre locks....

Although the comparison is slightly apples-to-oranges, I bought a 6" 629-1 in very nice condition, the middle gun in the photo below, for $615 in central Pennsylvania two weeks ago.

Based upon your description, I would think the gun you're considering is a good buy.

To add some more comparison information using the other guns in my photo above, I paid $705 for the 6.5" 629-4 Classic and $800 for the 5" 629-4 Classic DX. Both were purchased on GunBroker in 2010. The 6.5" came with its original "S&W" Hogues; I installed the S&W accessory stocks.

Well, it still might bring a nice buck. It IS a 5" and those combat stocks will bring between $150 and $250 themselves. I could be tempted...

Thanks everyone, I think I will go and check it out again on Monday.
