I have a chance to pick up a S&W 629-4 5” barrel ( not full under lug) The gun is 90+% no box or papers. The seller is asking $750.is this a good price? Thanks

Yes. Probably a fair price.

Now, the disclaimers.
With pictures and a more detailed description of the firearm better advice could be offered.
How close to 90% versus 95% or higher condition?
Assuming function is good and no significant flaws.

It’s for sale in a pawn shop.Minor handling marks that can be buffed.the gun is tight and show very little use . I will rate close to 95%.

Good price. What is the grip situation? Rubber or wood?

If wood grips are there it is a really good deal.

The 5" guns are not that common either.

Perhaps other more knowledgeable folks will comment here, but I was not aware that Smith made a 5 inch 629 without the full underlug. I have never seen one or one advertised or I would own one!!

If it is truly a 5 inch 629, it is either a very rare gun, or it has been cut from a longer barrel.

Either way, that's a pretty good price.

Went back to the place, it’s 6” barrel. They will let me have it for $720 otd.The gun rates at 90/95%.

That isn't a bad price for one. I paid around $745 for my dash 4 8 3/8" about 2 years ago.

Handling marks just mean you don't have to be so careful shooting it. The dash 4s had all the endurance upgrades so no worries there, I'd pick that variation over all others honestly.

Is it a square butt with S&W logo Hogue grips?

In that case, I would suggest walking away. Unless you really need another .44 magnum with the longer 6" barrel. That said, I think the asking price sounds pretty close. As others have already stated, good photos would help in estimating value.

I would be quite happy with the 629-4 5" model you already own.
That's a great barrel length. The 6" barrel gun you're considering is less desirable in my book.
