Sorry for another what's it worth thread! I'm thinking about selling my 4" 629-4, what will be an appropriate asking price?

I've had it for the last 5 years and shot it very little, very clean, tight lock up, super smooth DA, very crisp SA.

I see them on Gunbroker asking all kinds of prices from about 550 to over a grand. I never claimed to be an expert on pricing though. I would love to have it if I had the funds right now but such is not the case.
Just to be nosy but why do you want to move it along? I don't think you should have any trouble selling unless you put crazy money price on it.

What's nice about the dash 4's is that they have the old style frame with forged internals, hammer miunted firig pin, endurance package, drilled and tapped for a scope...basically all the good with non of the preceived bad. Some attribute a premium for that, the dash 3's largely cover all those bases, and so do the dash 2's minus the tapped top strap.

I have 2 629-4's and enjoy them no more or less than a dash 1 or dash 6.

Id bet that gun would fetch at least $700 on gb. Probably closer $850 with box and papers.

Only reason why I want to sell is I plan on starting a side business and the money will help me buy some needed tools.

Also if/when I replace this one I'd like to go with a 6" -4.

I paid $775 for a nice 629-4 w/4" barrel a while back at a local gunshow . It had S&W target grips in nice condition . The gun was also in great shape . The internal dimensions are " perfect " it shoots cast very accurately w/o leading the barrel . I will not sell it ----- ever , and that's a very long time ...........

Square butt or round butt? Do you have matching box and papers? I agree with SLT223 on the estimate.

Yours would be one of the last square butt 629's being an early -4.

They switched to round butt grip frames only during the -4 run.

As such your square butt is more desirable and in more demand than the same revolver with a round butt.

I would also prefer the flash chrome hammer and trigger on your early -4. Also done away with during the -4 run.

IMO you should keep this revolver. Would be very hard to replace it.

Great info! I know the -4s are desirable didn't realize most -4s are round butts. Talked me out of it - I'm keeping it!
