I am looking at purchasing a 4” 629-4 locally. Have not been paying attention to the market on 44’s lately.
Anyone happen to know what I should expect to pay for the gun?
It is in 98% condition with no box, paper work etc.
Any help I can get would be appreciated.
My own thought is if I can pick it up for $650.00 - $700.00, I would be in good shape.
 
I think if you can get a 629-4 for that price and condition, you might ought to buy it. Around here, any pre lock 629 would probably fetch a few hundred more.

If in good shape and I could get it bought for $650-700 I’d consider it my lucky day! Is it a round-butt gun? Sometimes you see them in square-butt, but most with 4-inch barrels I have seen are round-butt. A square-butt frame is my preference, but either way, that would be a good price on a great revolver.
 
I have not seen the gun in person yet. Just pictures, so i dont know if the frame is a SB or RB. It is wearing the factory Hogue Monogrips if that helps determining the frame configuration.
I am going to look at the gun tomorrow. Will post an update if I buy it.
Pretty sure I will come home wth it. Have had the itch for a big bore again and was debating between a 44 mag and a 45 Colt in a SS gun. The 44 won out as the price for a SS 4” 45 Colt pre-lock/pre MIM exceeds my desire to own one by several hundred dollars.

Went to look at the gun this morning.
Ended up buying it.
As you can see in the last picture, it came with the factory box and paperwork. There was no mention of the box in the posting and was never talked about as we discussed the final price. Only after I had handed over the money did he produce the box, saying "you will be wanting this" with a knowing smile on his face.
Seller was an absolute gentleman, and the transaction was worth the cost of admission.
What looks like a scratch on the end of the barrel on the right side view is a reflection. The gun is in extremely good condition.
Found it interesting that the box label (SN matches) shows the stock as SB, but removing the grip shows a definite RB grip frame.

The SB just refers to the Hogue round-to-square butt conversion grip, as those are sometimes called. You found a nice one! Congratulations on rounding it up! :)
 
I did. I went intent on trying for $650.00. After seeing what a gentleman the seller was and the condition of the gun, I decided to offer $700.00 which he agreed to immediately.
For once, when that happened, I felt no regret about having left money on the table.

That was a great buy at $700.
A very desirable model and the 4" barrel makes it even better in my mind.

Very well done! You're not going to regret that purchase. That is one fine revolver. I have one just like it and it's a favorite.

I checked my reloading stash this afternoon. Found over 100 pcs of 44 mag brass and about 75 44 spcl brass, an unopened box of 500 200 gr RNFP hard cast bullets, large pistol and large pistol mag primers and lots of suitable powder.
When the weather warms a bit and dries some, it is off to the foothills for some orientation.
 
Congrats, that was a good buy. I just bought a 629-4 Mountain Gun a few weeks ago, cost me $795.

Good on you... all deals should go down that way, and style points awarded to you for doing that.

And you still ended up with a great gun at a great price... California pricing would have that gun at a Grand, if not higher.
