A very good friend left me a 629 V-Comp in his will. I was astonished to receive what looks like a brand new revolver. While it does not have a box or papers, it was accompanied by the wrench for the compensator, the non-compensated barrel extension, wood combat style grips, and original Hogue round butt rubber grips (which I replaced with preferred round to square Hogues). I remain in awe and gratitude both of the nature of this gift and its condition.
My question for the Forum is the barrel length. It is 5" from the face of the forcing cone to the end of the rifling which extends just into the compensator. I have seen many 4" 629 V-Comps, but no 5" bbls. How rare is this barrel length? After searching, I found only 1 example on auction sites.
In a sense it does not matter as I intend to keep and shoot this revolver, but I would appreciate any information. Thank you for your time and consideration.
