629-5 V Comp Now with Pics! Post 8

I was out for a motorcycle ride this morning and stopped by a couple gun shops. One had a 629-5 V-comp, pre-lock, I didn't have a tape measure but it looked to be 5", but could possible be 4".
It was just the gun, no box, and just had the comp didn't have the false muzzle without the comp slots. Looked like it had Hogue rubber k frame grips as they didn't fit right. The gun had been fired, didn't look like a lot, looked good, mechanically sound and I can get it for $950 out the door. From what I've seen these pre-lock are fairly rare but I really couldn't get a value determination on my phone while I was at the shop. the grip thing is no big deal as I have factory combats and some Hogue wood kicking around the house.

I concur, at that price it would’ve went home with me. The post lock versions are still commanding 1500 or so.

Went back to the shop today and picked up the v-comp. It is indeed 5", with the comp it measures just shy of 6". Everything I find on line shows a 4", I'm wondering just how rare of an item I picked up. Looked in my SCSW 3rd and 4th editions and no mention of a 5".
After I get it cleaned up and proper stocks on board I'll post some pics.

Got the V Comp cleaned and a proper set of stocks on board. Quite pleased with the way it cleaned up. It was a project, don't think it had ever been cleaned, had quite a time getting the comp off.

And a pic with it's fraternal twin! A 627-3.

All in all a pretty good deal I think.

Nice find! I picked up a 5" one at a gun show about 11 years ago. Very good shooter and excellent action. It has accompanied me on a couple of multi-day hikes in Montana.
