629-6 Classic, lighter bullets lower, heavier higher????

I've seen several posts that indicate that bullet weight is the major contributor in this effect. Shoot a 158 gn. 38 spl. and then a 158 gn. 357
Magnum and you may only see an inch of difference at 25 yards. As for why, compared to the 38 spl. the 357 Magnum is a freaking rocket. So, yeah there is more muzzle flip but that Magnum spends less time in the barrel.

Grip hold also factors into this. When I first got my 610-3 I was struggling with consistent recoil management. So one day I decided to try an experiment to see if using a very relaxed grip might yield tighter groups. I was shooting from a rest at 35 yards and with a firm grip my groups were hovering around 3 1/2 inch. Then I tried just letting the muzzle flip without doing much more than holding it in line with the target. First thing I found out was that I needed a larger target, the NRA slow fire target I was using was just too small and I was sailing the rounds over the target. Put up a larger target and found that the POI had shifted by 12 inches. All due to not making any real attempt to control the muzzle flip. As for the resulting groups, they were a LOT worse. As a result I decided there just aren't any shortcuts and put in the time and practice needed to improve my recoil management. Now on a good day I can get the 610 down to 2 1/4 inch, which is what I've determined to be my limit for sighting at that distance with a reflex sight because that's about where I'll shoot with the 610, 620, and 617 on a good day.

Now for a bit of good news. While longer barrels do challenge your recoil management more than a shorter barrel, if you put in the effort you'll find that you've also improved your recoil management with a shorter barrel. End result is they'll either force you to become a better shooter or you'll give up in frustation. Personally, I'm a stubborn *** and I also enjoy challenging myself, so I consider purchasing that 610 a positive experience although there were times when I just wanted to head butt the nearest wall.
