I have a 629 Mountain Gun with the round butt, and Hogue Monogrips. The Factory grips seemed to be too big at the bottom for my stubby fingers and smallish hands to be comfortable. Just tried a set of Pachmayr Compacs. They put my knuckle right in line with the back of the trigger guard,(which is a bad place to be when 240 hot loads are going down range!). They are also almost too fat. The factory Monogrips seem to change the configuration of the round grip to a square grip. Does Hogue make a monogrip with a more round contour, that conforms more to the grip frame?

I prefer wood grips on mine.

Yes they do, and I prefer it to the factory Hogues, although the Hogue round butt grips still do not 100% follow the round butt grip frame. I swapped the Hogue RB for Ahrends rosewood RB grips and love the looks. They're fine with my carry load of Win. 210 gr Silvertips, but are still a handful with full power loads.

Better yet are the X-frame grips, which do a wonderful job of taming recoil. I "almost" don't mind shooting 240 JHPs with 23 gr of H110 (a max load). I've actually been fine with the X grips shooting handloads of 240 gr JHPs with 12.5 gr of 800X (maybe 1250 fps?) in action pistol matches. That's a fairly stout load.

FWIW, I have medium sized hands but shorter fingers.

They are Ahrends retro combats,I actually put those grips on my 629DX Classic and put a darker set just like those on the Mountain Gun.Just haven't had time to update the pic yet.

The original Mountain Revolver came with (unmarked) Pach Grippers.
They are slimmer than most of their other grips and have some metal inside of them.
They are cheap enough to just give 'em a try :)

I have pretty good sized hands and have on order some Herrett Troopers for this gun.
Hoping they get here before Christmas :)
I currently use the 500 Magnum grips to bench shoot loads from it.
They work pretty well and fit my hands but are they ever soft.
The 500 folks complain they break after a couple of boxes.
I have worn the logo off the left side and will probably order a backup.
They, too, are cheap.

I have been looking for a set of factory MG grips like these to try,

Right now have Herret Cocobolo SB's which work good and are smaller than factory target grips.
