629 - Multisight Solution

Might not look the best, but it works.

Wanted to shoot my 629 in both optic and irons classes in the silhouette matches.

I could only find a Warne rail mount for the 629 that allowed use of the factory irons.

Guess what? The sight plane is only 5" long.

Emailed Warne and asked why they'd designed such a short sight plane. They answered, "It was designed to be a backup in case there was a problem with the optic."

My gunsmith said, "No problem. I'll machine a taller front sight, and it will work just fine..

Picked it up today, went straight to the range, and it worked just fine at 50 yds. Both irons and optic with a Leupold QR rings!

Front sight height needs to be .540 to work with the Warne rail.

No permanent mod's.

1st match with it this morning.

Didn't win due to a bad case of CTI, but the system is working just fine.

This setup is working out very well.

Last match I won my optics class and tied high match score and took second in irons.

Shooting another silhouette match in the morning!

(using the Fitz target stock copies now instead of the rubber)

wow, never seen a setup like that. is the front sight interchangable or is it pinned in?

It's pinned in like the original sight (which can be easily reinstalled).

What sort of silhouette match? IHMSA? What class? With the port I would guess "Practical Hunter" field pistol or big bore.

Nice set-up. I just am trying to pick two revolvers to shoot Field Pistol with cast bullets. It's a fun game if one doesn't mind very public misses!
