629 no dash

I am looking to buy a 629 no dash w/pinned barrel & recessed cylinder. I am not sure if this is the right section or the one before this. I have no ser#. It is 6" barrel and has the wood box with the goodies. The weapon is so clean, it may not have been fired. As you can see it has a slightly Matt finish, at least not polished. My question is this, is $1250 too much to pay for it? John. Papascull.

The price may be a little high but, there wasn't a lot of P&R 629s produced. So, its not going to depreciate.

ETA:

If I saw the 629 you're describing and, had the money. I would consider it. Look at it this way, how often do you see something like that with an asking price that is less than $1500?

I`m not sure that is the original finish or the correct box for the 629.Although I`m probably wrong.

The original finish should be a brushed stainless finish. It should have fine linear brush marks in the finish and should be dull (i.e. not brightly polished). The pictures is either not detailed enough or the exposure is a little off but I cannot see the finish well enough to say if it's original.

Recent Gun Broker auctions resulting in a sale for a 629 no dash with 6" barrel have been $805 (excellent polished with no box), $950 (excellent original condition without box), $1200 (excellent original condition no box).

Maybe (?), based upon the above auctions, a price of a little close to $1000 is more reasonable?

I dont think the box and grips are original to the gun. Considering your location the price could be a good one, it would be high a couple hundred in my neck of the woods. At first glance the finish looks blasted but we need better photos to tell for sure. The no dash and early dash ones do have a slightly duller finish compared to the newer stainless guns, at least to my eyes. If your on the fence with this, the only thing I can add is to look at the rib and top strap. These parts are factory blasted, the rest of the gun shouldn't have any resemblance to them, by eye or feel. Good luck and let us know if you get it.

629 No Dash

Well, I am going to go for the deal. From what I can tell from reading the S&W "Bible", the box actually correct for the year of the revolver and they were options. Now the grips...well, only a letter would settle that potential problem. Although I really am not worried about it. Original Target grips checked are really available if need be. That S&W catalog is a God Send. Thanks for all you guys and your inputs. JS. Papascull.

Not sure about the box.
Don't think are the original grips.
But they are very nice grips!
Sounds a little high to me too.
But they certainly didn't make many.
