Does anyone own or has anyone fired one of these, it keeps catching my eye Mods please move, should be in 1980-Present..629 Performance Center sku-170334, the Magnum Hunter (with red-dot) and the Stealth Hunter...

There are quite a few different 629's from the Performance Center, it might be helpful if you describe the one you're talking about. Just hit the "Edit" button at the bottom of your first post, and go to town.

There is a lot of love on this forum for long-barreled .44's.

I don't own the 170334 with the fluted barrel or the Stealth Hunter. When you mention the Hunter with the red dot I assume you're asking about the 44 Magnum Hunter. I do have two of those and they're amazing shooters. They are both more accurate than I am but I still keep trying.
The fluted barrel of the dash 8 and the huge barrel on the Stealth just never appealed to me but I'm sure both would be excellent guns if they are what appeal to you.
Here are my Mag Hunters and a couple of PC Light Hunters too.

Just picked up a PC Magnum Hunter a few weeks back. No complaints - Accurate, smooth, nice balance. So far (about 200 rounds) the cheapo UTG red dot is working fine. The muzzle brake does seem to work well with hotter loads.

That one is a dash 7 shipped in 2008. The all SS finish was made before the two tones but share the same revision number.

I was in the same boat as you with the Stealth Hunter catching my eyes. I ended up ordering mine 2 years ago and am very happy with the purchase. The long ported barrel makes it a super smooth shooter.

I took mine out the other day and to my pleasant surprise, after a year since I replaced the grips, the color of its Cocobolo Culina grips turned a very appealing darker red.

One year ago...

Nice, I've read that Cocobolo is on the endangered and no longer available.

That one is a dash 7 shipped in 2008. The all SS finish was made before the two tones but share the same revision number.

I have one like that too. Mine is a Lew Horton P.C. model. Amazingly accurate and pleasant to shoot even with legitimate hunting loads. Trigger is one of the best I've ever shot.

I own a few Performance Center 44s. What is it that you would like to know?

Malph: It was mainly about the quality since there are more than a few horror stories on the web over the last few years. It also sounds like the "shoot ability" is not an issue with longer heavier 629's. Right now i'm leaning towards the new Magnum Hunter, in Cal. the older ones start at about $1,800.- and go north fast....
