So several years ago i got a call from a local dealer i frequented. He told me he had just taken in a 657 and a 629 and did I want to see them. I said I'd be up after work and maybe take both. When I got there, the 657 was goen. I bought the 629 for $600 out the door.
My brother had been looking for a 44 magnum, so i called him an offered it to him at the same price. He hemmed and hawed a bit and I laid a Winchester 44 lever in the table next to the Smith and said $1000 for the pair. He wisely agreed.
Flash forward to a sportsman's club meeting this week and a fellow member is selling a Ruger Redhawk 44. I ask him how much and he says $500. I am standing next to my brother, who prefers Rugers, and tell him he needs to buy that and if he does, I'll give him $600 for the Smith & Wesson 629. He agrees.
Now if I can just get him to sell me back the Winchester.....
