Been having a lot of fun with 22s lately. At the height of the pandemic, I was searching for a replacement model 63. Prices for a pre-lock were crazy, and not much better now.
I found this one online and grabbed it. That was three years ago. I pulled it from the safe and took a trip to the range a few weekends ago.
First two cylinders were fine. It felt good …almost as good as my old 63. All double action. Then, the trigger stuck fully depressed. Took some convincing, but I got it reset. Then, two more times, the trigger got “stuck” fully depressed, hammer down. Again, I was able to wiggle it free as the RSO no doubt wondered what I was doing. I put a few drops of Hoppes oil into the action. After that, it performed flawlessly. I put a brick and a half of Federal bulk through it that same day and it performed like a champ. Maybe it needed a break-in? No buildup under the extractor as my old 63 did frequently.
For me, the fiber optic sights are an eyesore, and the red tube does not stand out at all. Possibly green would be brighter for my eyes color deficiency. Apparently, the stock Hi-Viz does not allow a tube swap. Someday, I will swap the blade. Unless I have some help from optics or a bench, ten yards double-action is about my indoor-lighting limit for range.
Fun little j-frame. Lots of trigger time. Gotta love 22s.
