I've been looking at these (online only) to add to my carry rotation. What experience or opinions do you have? It would be carried OWB in situations when my 66 2.5 would be difficult to conceal.

CIsland:

I am pretty sure that the 637 only comes with a 1-7/8" (nominally 2") barrel. Check out the Concealed Carry forum, too, for threads about 637's, 642's, 638's, etc. - the family of fine snubbies.

Bud's has a good deal going now (or was it through the end of 2010?) and Gunbroker may have a few up for sale at this time.

I have a 640 (the fat sibling of the 637) and I think it is the finest little snubby around but that's just my opinion. You won't go wrong with a 637. The only thing to watch out for is the hammer when carrying concealed. A 642 does not have an exposed hammer so give it a lookover before you decide.

HTH,

Chris

They do make a 2.5" 637. I can't get the link to cooperate, but if you go to the S&W web site under revolvers, j frames, you'll find it on the third page.

I liked the front sight option too. Thanks for posting the link, my computer skills leave a lot to be desired.

I know that I like my 442. I'm looking for another j frame and want SA, and a bit longer barrel. This 637 looks like it may be the ticket.

CIsland & Photoman44:

Thanks for the link and I stand (sitting, actually) corrected. I guess the 2.5-incher is a new model. I have a hard time navigating the new S&W site so I have not got myself up to date on the new goodies.

When you get one, CIsland, please post a range report. I'll bet that 637 will be quite accurate with that longer barrel.

Chris

Thats another thing I liked about it. I hope you're right. I need to find a dealer close that has one in stock. I'd really like to see it in person before making a purchase.
