637-2 Speedloader

I bought this little 637-2 for my wife recently and have been trying to find a speedloader that will clear those factory rubber grips.

Can someone give me the name and model number for a speedloader for this revolver?

I ordered a HKS model last night. On multiple reseller sites, feedback was mixed from "works great" to "tight fit" to "won't work."

I have a new 638 with the same or similar grips you show. I'll followup when I receive it and test it. I also ordered some Bianchi speed strips.

HKS speedloaders work well with Uncle Mike boot grips. Unfortunately Uncle Mike boot grips don't work well with my hands. I switched to Pachmayr Compacts and had to trim them to work with speedloaders.

It seems S & W was not thinking of speedloaders when they designed these rubber grips for the 637-2. Wonder why?

I don't want an after market grip on my S & W so I guess I will do without a speed loader. Short sighted by S & W I must say.

Have you tried gently relieving the left grip with an X-acto knife? Just trim a little each time until the HKS clears the rubber. Should just take a smidge.

By the way, J-frames of the late 90s DID come with the rubber Uncle Mike's Boot Grip (my 637, for example), so installing the UMBG would not be considered using an 'after-market grip,' if we want to get technical!

Do you happen to have a picture of your 637 with that grip on it? I was not aware that they had those on them back then.

Did they have the S & W logo on them?

I trimmed my Pachmayr Compacts with a pair of snippers. Not the best lookin' but work for me.

You got me going on this one! I popped those grips; they were on another gun. No external markings, however, the inside of each grip has the UM logo and another box with the following:
59010 Fits
Smith&Wesson
J-Frame

I picked up a number of these grips from the S&W website 'Store' under closeouts. Identical markings, but the grip screw goes in from the right, as opposed to the older design which screws in from the left, as most grip screws do.

Sooo, if you want to be completely authentic, you need the older grip screw pattern... Don't know how important any of this is to you, just trying to help.

P.S. Glad you found photos. I can't do photos to save my life. I have saved other people's lives, though.
