Does any one carry a 639? Have seen some for sale for around the price of the 3900 guns and was wondering if the are as good. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Rick

Jump on it if they are priced like the 39s. I absolutely love the 39 series pistols. They are the apex of S&W auto pistols. There is a devoted group of model 39 fans here. The 639 would be a little heavier that the 39, but that is ok. Great pistols, you won't make a mistake by buying one.

The steel-framed 639 runs about half a pound heavier than the 39/3904... a little heavy on the hip compared to the aluminum-framed versions. About ten ounces heavier than the 3913/3953. Only you can determine what's comfortable.

Then again, the steel-frame guns are great range guns. You need one of each!

Very good shooter, but limited capacity and weighs a ton. Better carry guns out there now. The whole 39 series are classics.

639, my common carry arm since the early nineties. Shoulder holster is no problem for carry. I own a 9VE, but much prefer the 639 as the primary carry as it is much more accurate than not only the 9VE, but any other semiautomatic I've ever owned....and I've owned and sold many. It is heavy, no question, but not heavy enough to be a problem. I like carrying one in the pipe with the safety engaged-a simple forward push on the safety and it's rock and roll. I've put literally thousands of rounds through my 639 with 1 stovepipe on a reload. I was so shocked the one time the 639 choked on a round, I put the spent casing in my range bag about 10 years ago where it still remains. I've grown to accept the reality that shot placement is key, not magazine capacity. Simply have not encountered a more accurate 9mm in my experience. Great pistol. If you ran out of rounds, you could easily beat your adversary to death with a 639. Try that with a Glock. Makes a nice anchor, too.

I have a 639 get it you will love it.mine has adjustible rear sight and it is a sweet shooter.
