I have a Model 64-2 snubbie and when I load the revolver at least one of the shells will not drop into one of the chambers smoothly/freely. One shell always stops about an 1/8th of an inch from falling in flush, the other five will drop in smooth and easy.

The chamber that sticks is never the same chamber. I have tried different ammo to include snap caps and it does not make a difference.

It does not take much pressure to force the round on into the chamber. Once you push the stuck round into the chamber it becomes free moving and all the bullets will fall out freely when you engage the extractor rod.

I looked as good as I could at the extractor rod and it does not seem bent and since the problem moves from chamber to chamber it does not seem that would be the problem,

Any ideas of what could be causing this?

I would examine the extractor top, sides, and bottom carefully under good lighting. Look for burrs, rough edges, and uneven machine cuts.

The factory extractors are profiled during the chambering operation, and a replacement extractor may or may not match the cylinder perfectly.

Also, check to see that both extractor guide pins are present. They are needed for the extractor to drop and index correctly.

John, Thanks for the reply. Both guide pins are there. I checked the extractor for burrs like you suggested. The fact that it moves from chamber to chamber is the part that keeps me guessing.

It could also be you have a buildup of crud in the cylinder bores and it just happens to interact differently with different rounds. If you reload or know someone who does take a correct length resized case (no bullet just the case) and put the same case in each cylinder bore. It should go in and out easily. I am guessing you may have some crud in the bores near the step cut in the cylinder and that a real, real good cleaning will very possibly fix it.

That was my first thought but I cleaned all the chambers very well with Hoppes #9 and a brass brush. I tried reloaded shells as well as new factory ammo and snap caps and it still happens. The binding is right around the star not inside the chamber.
