64 3" value

Looks like today is the S.S. K frame 3" day, with the 66 & 65 3" threads going. I didn't want to butt in on those threads so I'll start one on the value of a 64-5 3".

I've been looking for a 65 or 66 3" for a while and I know they're like hens teeth, filled with gold. Anyway there's a good to VG condition 64-5 3" on a local board for sale, wearing Pach's with no box etc. His asking priced is $425. Is this a decent deal on this gun? Yes, I know without pictures it;s hard to tell. Just wanting to get a good general idea.

Normally I don't ask for much value advise, I just "google" it and go from there. There's not a lot of info for 3" 64's on the WWW.
So I turn to the experts here on the forum.

BTW, I'm still on the lookout for that preferably 66 3", no matter the outcome on this one.

I would buy it for that price. You might try and talk him down a little more. Cheaper is always better when you are buying.

If its in decent shape I would say that's a fair to good price and if its FTF that saves a few bucks also..

trashy, I don't know if this helps you any, but I bought a M64-5 3" about 3 months ago for $425. I felt it was a fair price for the condition of the M64. I may have paid a little much for it, but I just don't see them often.

I got mine about 3 months ago. I paid $300 for it. It's coming back from Gemini Customs on Wednesday.

Thanks guys. I've been in contact with the seller and we have settled on a price less than the original listed price, pending mechanical condition. We will meet FTF tomorrow or Tuesday.

I better understand the values of older blued K's, not so much the newer SS models. This will be one of our HD and possible purse / car carry for my better half. We have a 66 ND 2 1/2" that she likes, but I think this will better suit her. Always trying to keep the better half happy.

You did well, I gave up on my search for one. I was watching an auction on a popular site that ends soon. It's up over my self imposed limit at $455 with an hour left (add shipping and local fees of $30-$40 and it'd be over $500, can't do it).

S&W Fan, I know exactly how you feel. It's ALWAYS someone else getting all the great deals. I was watching and bidding on one yesterday I have been wanting for a while, let;s just say it was a 1959 model year. I even went $150 over my initial self imposed limit, I know it was worth more than where I stopped, so hopefully someone on here got a good deal.

If / when I get the 64-5 home I will post some pictures.

If a true cosmetic and mechanical NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards "very good", $425 would have been a fine price for a 3" Model 64 in the current market; whatever you negotiated down to is gravy. Enjoy a perfect K-frame.

As promised. I picked up the 64-5 w/ 3" barrel today. Got it for less than the initial asking price. It has some wear marks, nothing a little Mothers Mag and patience won't take care of. All mechanical's are excellent, I don't believe it's been shot much.

This is my first 3" and I must say, as others have stated, it feels mighty good in the hand. Be the end of the week before I can get it to the range for a try out.

Congrats, you'll like it a lot. The first thing I changed out on mine were the grips. I went with a boot grip. Now I'm back to wood combats.

I agree with wood, I got a pair of RB magnas I'll try. Will probably be looking for a pair of RB target combats or some Ahrends. They don't look good but the Pach's pictured sure feel good

You did well Young Skywalker. Here in the People's Empir....er, Republik I would have jumped on any M64 3" at that price.

Three inchers are the perfect balance in K-frames.

SAC, to be honest, without shooting it yet, I'm starting to see what all the fuss about 3"ers is all about. I currently have a 66 ND 2 1/2" and this one, to me, feels better balanced. Time and a range workout will tell.

I paid just under $300.00 for my S&W 64-3 in August 2009.

I traded my S&W 1076 for a S&W 65-5 and some cash, a very good trade for me.

I liked it so much I bought a S&W 65-3 a few years later.

I did not care so much for the S&W 66-2 and sold it about six weeks ago.

The -5 is an interesting model. It was transitional with a lot of variations. Some had the MIM trigger. Looks like yours looks forged. Some had the "Nike" latch (which was also MIM). Your latch is old school. Other things, too. The -6 was the frame mounted firing pin, and the -7 the lock. As far as desirable features, some might say you have the ultimate 3" Model 64.
