640 no dash

I just received a 640 no dash with serial CEN14xx (no box) that I have a couple of questions about.

The standard catalog doesn't say much about CEN serial numbers (or my eyes and brain have just gotten that bad). Can I assume that it is first year production? It does have the +p+ inscription inside the frame. Is there a source for dating it?

Second question is what grips would it have come with from the factory? It presently has smooth goncalo alves with bronze medallions on it.

I have a 640 very similar. To the best that I remember I purchased in 1991 or 1992. It also has a CEN Serial Number and +P+ markings on the frame. the.. I still have it and it is a fine carry gun.

These Uncle Mikes grips are what came with mine however I bought the gun second hand.

I bought one new in mid-1992, it had the CEN prefix and was marked +P+ as well if that helps. Since sold off.

Some folks think the CEN prefix adds $100-150 to the value; some don't. Regardless its a great carry gun that's very shootable.
