640 to 940 conversion?

what are your opinions on getting a 38 cylinder reamed for 9mm? I am thinking about getting a beater j frame and sending the cylinder off to get cut. what do you all thing?

Pinnacle High Performance did mine. I believe TK Customs also offers the service, don't know who else.

Dave manson of Manson reamers said that the 9mm is a tapered case and the 38 special is not, And it is best to use the 940 cylinder for this use,,,,
But others have dont it with good results.
So I would say, Do it if you want to.

I used a new 637 for my conversion gun. TK Custom of Rantoul, IL did the reaming and cutting for moonclips. The total cost (a little over a year ago) was $225; I just sent the cylinder and extractor star and had them back in 10 days. TK included a moonclip and set of dummy cartridges when he returned the cylinder. It fit perfectly to the frame and is totally reliable. The cylinders are polished mirror smooth and I've never had an extraction problem, even with +P loads.

nice, now to just find a beater J frame for cheap that I can bead blast.

Just for kicks I tried my 940-1 cylinder in my newly aquired 649 & it could work but doesn't time on one cylinder perfectly in DA with drag held on the cylinder..
Guess I'll have to be happy with the three S&W 9mm wheelies I already have for Now..

I bought an extra cylinder to have converted to moon clipped 9mm. Size is right etc.

However, using my factory extractor and crane and the new cylinder I get a very heavy trigger pull, there is no endshake what so ever. Otherwise, the timing seems pretty good.
