How is the recoil? I remember that the 940 had a good kick.
It's not bad at all. It's a relatively heavy all-steel revolver. It's more or less the same as a Model 60 or 37 with +P .38 Special, as posted above.

Interesting thread. I love the idea's put forth. Maybe I can find a beater M60 0r 649 and do a conversion, would hate to tinker with what I have because I like originality.
Cylinders are never a drop-in part. There are fitting issues related to both timing and basic dimensionality (headspace, endplay, b/c gap, etc.).
Oh why oh why can't S&W bring back a lightweight 9mm J frame? It just makes sense.
-good BUG for those who already own a 9mm
-Comparable performance to 38 spl
-positive extraction of ALL spent cases
-reload takes up less room than speedloader full of 38's in your pocket.
I still wonder why the market wasn't there.
I have shot the 158 gr. SWC out of the 2" .38 Special at 1100 FPS. The 9x19 can never match that, and I have not seen chronograph results that indicate that the 9x23, .38 Super or .356 TSW can do it either.
