Hi,
The run of the Model 642 was only a limited run. We had some frames
that were in our inventory that were the old style. We will continue to
put the internal lock on all of our revolver line. We thank you for your comments
concerning the special run.

Thank you
Kf
I got exactly the same answer. I wrote back and said, too bad. I'll go buy a used one.

You mean you would rather have a used S&W with NO internal lock than a new S&W with NO internal lock and lifetime warranty?

I want to comment futher on this one, but just can't think of anything polite to say.

I already had a pre-lock 642-1, almost like new, but decided to buy one of the new releases. Might have to pick up another one as well. Smith and Wesson has noticed, I guarantee that. Whether they change their policy/product mix we'll soon find out. If they come out with a no lock version of a firearm that was only offered locked will be the test. Then the excuse of "clearing out frames on the storage shelf" won't apply.

Without a doubt, no question. I'd much rather have a used Smith than a new one. I haven't bought a new S&W since the lock, but I bought two of these 642s.
