I have searched and read a lot of posts comparing the LG-105's and LG-405's. I am still trying to decide which one I want to go with but I am leaning towards the LG-105 since I always pocket carry.

One thing I have not seen mentioned in the posts I have been reading is a comparision between the factory boot grips and the LG-105's in terms to recoil. Although it is not very comfortable for long range sessions I have been fine shooting with the stock boot grips on my 642.

Are the LG-105's similar to the stock boot grips in size and felt recoil? Also how do the LG-405's compare to the stock grips in size and felt recoil?

Thanks,

I can only speak for the LG-105's...
They are very compact and concealable...
They are made of a hard plastic...polymer I think...
They are not as sticky as some of the other models and
are easy to get in and out of your pocket....
They don't help much as far as buffering recoil...

I'm not particularly recoil-sensitive and have no problem
practicing with target loads....
However, the .38 Special +P loads can exhaust you quickly...

YMMV...

Yes, and yes

Thanks for the info guys! I will probably go with the LG-105's then. It would be nice to have a little cushion but since I purely pocket carry I think the 105's are the way to go.

Thanks again,

I'd get the 405's. They're still a compact grip and they help with recoil. I had the 105's and you may as well just have wooden grips on the dang thing. I'm not sure you need a laser on a defensive J frame. If you're a cop then that's a different deal altogether. Plus my first set of 105's was defective and I had to send them back.

IMO if you can pocket the boot grips you can pocket the 405's.

Not sure what the difference is but I have LG-305's on my 642. Took it out yesterday and re-sighted my pistol for WWB 130GR FMG'S.

** I just checked out the CT website and the 305's have extended or longer grips. Less concealable I suppose but I have never had any problems. Also should add that I see why they include two identical allen wrenches. I'm down to one now.....:(

Have you tried out the LG405 grips? I found them to be just as pinky-finger-adrift as the LG105s. In other words, they probably will pocket carry about as well as the 105s. And I suspect you will practice more often with 405s than you will with 105s. Perhaps i am rushing to a judgement when I say this, but don't let the price difference make the decision for you. As that old saying states, "Penny wise means dollar foolish".

By the way my Airweight, purchased eight years ago, came with the only CT grip available then, the LG305 -- so I am neutral on this decision. And, if I lived in a different county in California, I would pocket carry it with no problem. I wear slacks, and I already know that it wouldn't show in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. And I get all my fingers on the grip.

Cordially, Jack

I pocket carry my 642. Took the 305's off of it and bought 105's.

I won't change back, the 105's are much better for carry and are not bad for shooting.

I've got 105's on my 360J, they feel like shooting with wood grips. I was raised on guns made of steel and wood and they feel fine to me, recoil is not an issue. The other models are to big and sticky for my needs.

Thanks for all the great info. Now I just need to make a decision and have my wife buy them for my birthday! I think I will probably stick with the 105's but I might have to check out a pair of 405's before I make my final decision.

Thanks,

I have both and will only use the 405's on my 340PD. On a heavier gun the 105's might be ok. I carry the 340PD in a Mika pocket holster and have never had a problem either concealing it or drawing it.

I'm going with the LG-105 from gunbroker.com for $150 (free shipping). The rubber on the LG-405 is bulky and may snag on a pocket draw. The LG-405 may not fit in all pocket holsters either. My 2₵.

if you call Crimson Trace, they will send you a package that contains new allen wrench as well as two batteries and two cleaning swabs for free.
Also, they have replaced the two small allen wrenches with one longer one that has a handle attached to it for easier use.

I have large hands so the 305 on my 640-1 is perfect. Wouldn't want it any smaller. Also, yes the new allen wrenchs have a rubber knob on the end making it easy to use, unlike the old small ones. They sent me 2 free. If anyone has the old ones E mail them for some new ones, much better.
