I want to put CT grips on a 642 but I am concerned about how it affects concealability vs. the stock grips. For those of you who have these on your 642, does the gun still conceal well in front pants pocket? Also, does it help with recoil? Which model CT grips is best? I have a set on my SP101 and love them (recoil reduction too). The 642 is a BUG to the Ruger and I think it would be best if they both have CT, mostly because of familiarity with them during practice.

When I bought my 637 (the visible hammer version of the 642) five years ago, I installed the CT 305 grips as they were the only ones available then. I don't carry, but I practice as I wait for a new sheriff (California gun laws are verrrry interestinK). My snubby in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster does not print, and it is easy to forget it is there. I wear chinos, so can't say how they do in skintights.

However. . . . that revolver just beats my hand up something awful. If I don't tape the web of my hand first, twenty shots of RANGE LOADS will create, and pop, a blister. I strongly recommend that you get the 405s instead of the 305s. The 405 has a little shock absorber at the top of the grip that should solve the blister problem. The 405 grip is shorter than the 305, which is just right. This could affect accuracy. On the other hand it would enhance concealment.

Hope this helps.
Cordially, Jack

So would the LG-405 conceal in jeans or chinos? Does it have an on/off switch (not a big deal; the ones on my Ruger do and I use them when I want to practice without the laser).

Yes, it conceals very well. I often carry a 342 with LG-405 lasergrips in the front pocket of my jeans, and no one has ever noticed that it's there. The LG-405 is a great design--even without the laser it would still be one of the best concealed-carry grips available.

Mine came with 305s. They were great for shooting, but lousy in the jean's pocket. I sold them and replaced them with 405s. Wouldn't trade these grips for anything anywhere.

I have the LG-105's on my M&P 340. If you shoot regular .38 loads they aren't bad. +P's can be a little tougher. I have no trouble with concealment or draw.
