642 backstrap

A number of threads abound in re nickel finish versus blue, etc., and there were many remarks about aging nickel looking bad. I'll reserve comments on that issue; however, you know how old, aging nickel sometimes flakes off.....? Well, the backstrap of my EDC M642 is doing that. How is that possible?
What is there to flake?

Please advise.

Its the clear coat they put over the anodized aluminum that is pealing off.
