642 cylinder problem

The cylinder on my 642 is catching and stopping when i try to close it. closing it with normal force it does it about one out of ten tries, if i close it slow its about one out of three tries. Everything is clean and oiled with no debris under the star or anything, the crane is straight, and the ejector rod is tight, Any you guys with more knowledge than me have any ideas what might cause this?

G’day Mate,
My first suggestion would have been something under the extractor, next loose extractor rod, looks you looked at all of the obvious. I’m not familiar with this model, if it has a riveted in cylinder stop check it’s not loose (turning). A loose cylinder stop will give the symptoms you have described.

You didn't bend the crane or ejector rod by chance?

Is the front of the cylinder clean? Is it possible that part of the cylinder is rubbing on the forcing cone?

What about the sideplate screw on the right side of the frame, under the triggerguard, that holds the cylinder & yoke in place? I've found that after shooting about 50 rounds the screws on my 442, to include the cylinder latch screw, have loosened slightly.

When I first got my 442 the ratchet was rubbing on the recoil shield and catching a little. A little bit of careful filing on the recoil shield with a fine file gave me just enough clearance.

It has the removable cylinder stop and it seems fine, all the screws are tight, it has the rubline on the recoil shield but doesn't seem to be catching. I dont know if this helps but I noticed when it catches if i stop pushing and rotate the cylinder i can get it to go on into battery
