My wife appropriated by beloved 642 for a purse gun. Yesterday I went forth to purchase another 642 for me (its a great pocket gun). Lo and behold the old timey gunstore that I frequent had new 642s without a lock (I bought one). So, the stories of new lockless 642s are true. Now if only S&W would do away with the lock on all their other revolvers.

Yeah, you can get 442/642/640Pro/642Pro/and 340M&P without lock! (waiting on my 340 no lock right now...)
Now, bring back the L and N frames without locks...

I bought my 642-1 no lock from my LGS in March. He's had a few 442/642-1 no locks since. The lock models are still easier for him to get.

Just don't understand all the fuss about the lock. I agree, they should never have been put on but it takes about five minutes to take it out, put in a plug that doesn't even show.

According to the S&W website the list price is $20 more for the gun without the lock.

Mine didn't. He mis-ordered me a 442 by mistake, so when he went to reorder, I asked him to make it a no lock if there was no price difference.

Sounds like your dealer squeezed you on that

I've seen the no-lock 642's in a semi local store. I think they were on the shelf for $379 or so. The same gun with the IL was $339 if memory serves.

I just sold both of my IL 642's to fund the purchase of a no-lock 640-1 Pro Series. I've started a thread about my concerns over this particular gun.
